Tafel Deutschland is the umbrella organization for more than 960 food banks. The non-profit association represents the interests of the Tafel in politics, business and society and supports the Tafel work on site with practical help. The helpers collect food from retailers and manufacturing companies and distribute it to people affected by poverty. In addition to distributing food, many food banks offer additional services such as a hot lunch, tutoring or childcare. In addition to social compensation, food banks also make an important contribution to climate protection. By giving people the opportunity to save money on their purchases, the food banks give people affected by poverty a little financial leeway. At the same time, they create space for encounters and thus promote social participation.
