About Bürgerwerke
At a time when many people feel powerless to stop the climate crisis from worsening, the Bürgerwerke model offers a way to take effective action. This is because every customer can not only easily obtain 100% green electricity from renewable energy sources through Bürgerwerke, but also demonstrably supports the respective energy cooperative in their own region through their own energy consumption.
That’s because Bürgerwerke isn’t an anonymous corporate giant, but a community of more than 50,000 people and over 100 regional energy cooperatives from all over Germany, working together to drive the energy transition forward in the hands of the people. As an independent green electricity provider, Bürgerwerke has been supplying BürgerStrom—generated from solar, wind, and hydro power—and BürgerÖkogas—produced from plant-based residues—throughout Germany since its founding in 2013. The goal: a renewable, regional, and self-determined energy supply in the hands of citizens that allows as many people as possible to participate in the energy transition.
