Back in 2004, when the third wave of coffee was still in its infancy, the story of Freund Kaffee began in an old factory building. Today, we are proud to operate a modern, glass-walled roastery in the heart of Germany, now in its second generation of leadership: Founders Stefan and Sybille Freund handed over management to their daughter Helen in 2023.
Decades of experience in traditional drum roasting meet our highest quality standards. With our specialty coffees, we are only satisfied when we have created a perfectly harmonious taste experience that makes us close our eyes in delight.
Our secret? Top-quality green coffee beans from the world’s best growing regions, sourced from producers we trust completely—and a particularly gentle roasting process:
In our slow-roasting process, the green coffee is heated to a maximum of 220 °C and spends about 20 minutes in the roaster. In industrial roasting, temperatures often reach 400 °C or higher—and the process frequently takes less than half the time. The gentle roasting process not only ensures a uniquely complex flavor profile but also results in coffees that are particularly easy to digest.
In our selection, you’ll find specialty coffees suited for various brewing methods—from portafilter to pour-over to fully automatic machines—and we guarantee there’s something for every taste: whether nutty and chocolatey, delicate and floral, or lively and fruity. And if you’re keeping a close eye on your caffeine intake, you should definitely try our Low Caf or our Decaf.
